Remodeling an existing home takes judgment, adaptability, and craft. Existing conditions are rarely perfect, and good remodelers have to know how to adjust as the work unfolds, working with what’s there to make the finished result feel right. But adaptability doesn’t mean improvising everything. Good remodeling also requires a disciplined process. That’s why we put so much work into planning, coordination, and communication – so our team has what they need to solve problems well and you can feel confident as the project moves forward.

We'll talk about what you're considering, answer your questions, and cover the basics. From there, the next step is usually a visit to your home.

We'll walk through your home together, talk through the project, and get a clearer picture of the scope. From there, we can begin planning what comes next.

We bring the right team together and work through the details before construction begins. This is where the project takes shape and the plan comes together.

Initial Phone Call
It starts with a phone call. We’ll talk about what you’re considering and whatever questions are on your mind. We’ll also cover the practical side, like the general scope, investment range, and timing. From there, the next step is usually a visit to your home, where we can take a closer look and continue the conversation.
Meeting
Next, we’ll meet at your home and walk through the project together. We’ll look at what’s there, talk about what you’d like to change, and explore ideas and possibilities as we go. We’ll also take the time to understand the full scope of the project, including things that may not have come up during our first conversation. That gives us the information we need to put together the pre-construction agreement, begin assembling the team, and get to work on planning your project.
Pre-Construction Planning
Once we agree to move forward, we begin working together under a pre-construction agreement. If you already have an architect or designer, we partner with them to develop the project from a construction standpoint. If you come to us for design as well, we build and coordinate the right team – architects, designers, engineers – and keep everyone moving in the same direction.
Either way, this is where we develop the project from every angle, working through the scope, design, and details together. As those pieces come together, we refine the plan, making thoughtful adjustments along the way. The more we can resolve during pre-construction, the more clearly we can enter the build with the major decisions made, the scope well-defined, and fewer avoidable changes once work is underway.
The Build
Every Heartwood project is different, with its own details, decisions, and design intent. Once construction begins, we manage the day-to-day, coordinate trades, track decisions, and use our systems to carry those details through to the finished home. Even with careful planning, sometimes changes can come up during construction.
So when they do, we work through them carefully, with you. We make sure everyone is on the same page, update the plan accordingly, and keep moving with clarity. Because so much has been resolved during pre-construction, our focus during the build is to carry out the plan we created together. We also put a lot of attention into the schedule. We know your time is valuable, and construction affects your daily life. We carefully sequence the work and keep the project moving, building efficiently without compromising the work itself.
Post Completion
Finishing a project is not the end of our relationship. We stand behind our work and remain available if something needs attention, not only during the warranty period, but in the years that follow. We can also help you navigate applicable manufacturer warranties and connect you with trusted people in our network when something falls outside the work we provide. Whether you need our help again someday or simply need a recommendation, we want to remain a resource you can count on.
